MADAGASCAR
Madagascar: A Jewel of the Global Cocoa Industry
Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and unique natural resources. Among its treasures is its remarkably high-quality cocoa, famous for its distinctive aromas and refined flavor profile. Thanks to its unique terroir and commitment to sustainable agriculture, Madagascar has established itself as a key player in the global market for premium cocoa.
The inclusion of Madagascar in the Global Youth Leadership for Sustainable Cocoa (GYLSCO) program is both strategic and visionary. The Malagasy cocoa industry is not only a driver of economic growth; it is also a symbol of the country’s potential to combine sustainability and innovation to shine on the international stage.
Leadership and Government Vision
Under the guidance of visionary leaders, Madagascar has made the enhancement of its agricultural products, particularly cocoa, a central pillar of its development strategy. The government actively supports initiatives aimed at adding value to raw materials, strengthening their export potential, and empowering farmers. This vision aligns perfectly with GYLSCO’s mission: to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders in the cocoa value chain.

TOAST AT THE LAUNCH
OF GYLSCO IN MADAGASCAR
Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished Guests, Dear Partners and Friends,
Welcome to this dinner marking the launch of the Global Youth Leadership for Sustainable Cocoa (GYLSCO). This moment is a unique opportunity to celebrate an initiative that brings together two essential priorities for Madagascar: the future of our youth and the sustainable development of the cocoa sector, a strategic pillar of our economy.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the partners present this evening for their commitment and support. Your collaboration is essential in guiding our young people in their role as future leaders, bringing sustainable solutions and innovations.
I would especially like to express my gratitude to the Global Youth Leadership for Sustainable Cocoa (GYLSCO) for taking the initiative to bring us together tonight. Their efforts reflect the program’s deep commitment not only to the future of Malagasy youth but also to the future of the cocoa sector, a key industry for our country. Madagascar, a land of opportunities and agricultural wealth, places great emphasis on developing its agricultural sectors, particularly cocoa, with a major objective: improving the quality, sustainability, and competitiveness of our agricultural products.
This initiative aligns perfectly with the efforts undertaken by the Malagasy government in the fields of education, job creation, and youth empowerment. GYLSCO is not just a training program—it is a real opportunity for our young people to become agents of lasting change.
This program is a concrete step towards a competitive agricultural economy that respects our environment.
Now, I would like to invite you all to raise your glasses to the success of this initiative, to our youth, and to a promising future for Madagascar.
Long live Madagascar, and long live GYLSCO!
HE Mrs. Rafaravavitafika RASATA
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Republic of Madagascar
KEY IMPACTS
Inspire. Empower. Activate.
With over 60% of its population under the age of 25, Madagascar is brimming with untapped potential. The government recognizes the importance of investing in its youth by providing them with the tools and opportunities to innovate and drive sustainability in the agricultural sector. Through the GYLSCO program, young Malagasy leaders will gain exposure to global best practices, develop cross-cultural collaborations, and explore innovative solutions to maximize the value of their cocoa heritage.
Madagascar’s participation in GYLSCO reflects our shared commitment to sustainability, education, and economic empowerment. By integrating 25 dynamic young leaders from Madagascar, the program will not only enhance their skills but also position them as ambassadors of sustainable cocoa. Through workshops, international bootcamps, and exchange programs, these leaders will explore new opportunities such as cocoa-related tourism, digital content creation, and high-value-added products, contributing to the diversification and growth of the sector.
